PR3 Standards are key recommendation in Activating Reusable Packaging Report
The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation and The Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Islands Plastics Pact released their new report on Activating Reuse in the ANZPAC region. One of the key recommendations in the report is to utilize standards for reusable packaging, including the PR3 Reusable Packaging Systems Standards to ensure measurement and evaluation efforts are rigorous and industry aligned.
PR3 is a winner of the Department of Energy Re-X Before Recycling Prize.
PR3 is a proud winner of the Re-X Before Recycling Prize! With our brilliant panel of global experts across the reuse ecosystem, we’re creating standards for reusable packaging systems and blueprint for the world’s multi-use economy. Thank you to the U.S. Department of Energy and its national laboratories for supporting both product and systems innovations that will keep materials in use beyond a single life cycle. It’s the only way we’ll solve our waste, pollution and climate crises!
PR3 at Green Sports Alliance Summit
Los Angeles, CA, United States
11 - 14 June 2024
PR3 is proud to announce our role as a Leadership Advisory Board Member and contributor to the Green Sports Alliance’s Reuse Playbook!
About the Playbook: With sections on environmental and social benefits, economic opportunities, procurement and design considerations, implementing reuse systems, measuring success and continuous improvement, and other considerations such as fan education, communication, and amplification, this Reuse Playbook for Sports and Entertainment Venues highlights and accelerates the transition from single-use products to reuse and circularity. Our aim with this playbook is not only to provide the reasons, contents, and methods but, more significantly, to inspire operators, venues, concessionaires, and leaders that reusing is not just feasible but essential.

PR3’s Recommendations for the Global Plastics Treaty Ahead of INC-4
Ottawa, Canada
23-29 April 2024
Reuse must be a central part of the Global Plastics Treaty.
Recycling, refill, and reuse are often confused, leading to a prolonged reliance on systems damaging to human health and the environment. PR3 recommends that the Global Plastics Treaty adhere to the waste management hierarchy and prioritize the more favored options of reduction and reuse. This includes setting reuse targets and requiring standardized product design to reduce plastic demand and increase reusability. Standardized design criteria for reuse labeling, packaging design, washing & sanitization, collection systems, and methodology for tracking environmental and social benefits supports interoperability between reuse systems. Global standards for reusable packaging systems will enable systems to scale, resulting in significant decreases in system costs, climate emissions, and plastic pollution.
PR3 at SES 2024 Annual Conference
Standards Touch Everyone: Innovations to Broaden Inclusion in Standards Setting
Pittsburgh, PA, United States
9-11 April 2024
On Thursday, PR3 will be presenting a framework for enhancing the equity of standards development at the Society for Standardization Professionals' (SES) Annual Conference. Join us! Standards have a significant impact on products, services, and systems with which millions of people interact every day. As such, the process of setting standards is generally meant to be inclusive and actively solicitous of diverse viewpoints. But in practice, equitable and broadly inclusive standards development is challenging to achieve. The standards community faces a wicked question: How to reconcile the need for broad inclusion in standards development with the intensity of the task? This session will explore ways SDOs are grappling with this question - attempting to create conditions that foster broader and more equitable participation in standards development.
